Itwasthegreatdrinking-place,wherewehadwanderedonceortwicetowatchthecircusoftheanimalswhentheycamedowntodrink.Beyondit,weknew,wasthecarrotpatch,andbeyondthatthecavesandtheabiding-placeofthehorde.Webegantopaddleforthebankthatslidswiftlypast,andbeforeweknewitweweredownuponthedrinking-placesusedbythehorde.Therewerethewomenandchildren,thewatercarriers,anumberofthem,fillingtheirgourds.Atsightofustheystampededmadlyuptherun-ways,leavingbehindthematrailofgourdstheyhaddropped.
Welanded,andofcourseweneglectedtotieupthecatamaran,whichfloatedoffdowntheriver.Rightcautiouslywecreptuparun-way.TheFolkhadalldisappearedintotheirholes,thoughhereandtherewecouldseeafacepeeringoutatus.TherewasnosignofRed-Eye.Wewerehomeagain.Andthatnightwesleptinourownlittlecavehighuponthecliff,thoughfirstwehadtoevictacoupleofpugnaciousyoungsterswhohadtakenpossession.
