           "PerhapsIdo. Argumentsaretoomuchlikedisputes. IfyouandMissBennetwilldeferyourstillIamoutoftheroom,Ishallbeverythankful; andthenyoumaysaywhateveryoulikeofme." 

           "Whatyouask,"saidElizabeth,"isnosacrificeonmyside; andMr.Darcyhadmuchbetterfinishhisletter." 

           Mr.Darcytookheradvice,anddidfinishhisletter. 

           Whenthatbusinesswasover,heappliedtoMissBingleyandElizabethforanindulgenceofsomemusic. MissBingleymovedwithsomealacritytothepianoforte;and,afterapoliterequestthatElizabethwouldleadthewaywhichtheotheraspolitelyandmoreearnestlynegatived,sheseatedherself. Mrs.Hurstsangwithhersister,andwhiletheywerethusemployed,Elizabethcouldnothelpobserving,assheturnedoversomemusic-booksthatlayontheinstrument,howfrequentlyMr.Darcy’seyeswerefixedonher. Shehardlyknewhowtosupposethatshecouldbeanobjectofadmirationtosogreataman; andyetthatheshouldlookatherbecausehedislikedher,wasstillmorestrange. Shecouldonlyimagine,however,atlastthatshedrewhisnoticebecausetherewassomethingmorewrongandreprehensible,accordingtohisideasofright,thaninanyotherpersonpresent. Thesuppositiondidnotpainher. Shelikedhimtoolittletocareforhisapprobation.
