           "Thatwouldbeagoodscheme,"saidElizabeth,"ifyouweresurethattheywouldnotoffertosendherhome." 

           "Oh!butthegentlemenwillhaveMr.Bingley’schaisetogotoMeryton,andtheHurstshavenohorsestotheirs." 

           "Ihadmuchrathergointhecoach." 

           "But,mydear,yourfathercannotsparethehorses,Iamsure. Theyarewantedinthefarm,Mr.Bennet,aretheynot?" 

           "TheyarewantedinthefarmmuchoftenerthanIcangetthem." 

           "Butifyouhavegotthemto-day,"saidElizabeth,"mymother’spurposewillbeanswered." 

           Shedidatlastextortfromherfatheranacknowledgmentthatthehorseswereengaged. Janewasthereforeobligedtogoonhorseback,andhermotherattendedhertothedoorwithmanycheerfulprognosticsofabadday. Herhopeswereanswered;Janehadnotbeengonelongbeforeitrainedhard.Hersisterswereuneasyforher,buthermotherwasdelighted. Theraincontinuedthewholeeveningwithoutintermission;Janecertainlycouldnotcomeback. 

           "Thiswasaluckyideaofmine,indeed!"saidMrs.Bennetmorethanonce,asifthecreditofmakingitrainwereallherown.
