Andthebusinessofthisofficeris,whentwo,three,ormorepersonsareincompany,gentlytostrikewithhisbladderthemouthofhimwhoistospeak,andtherightearofhimorthemtowhomthespeakeraddresseshimself.Thisflapperislikewiseemployeddiligentlytoattendhismasterinhiswalks,anduponoccasiontogivehimasoftflaponhiseyes;becauseheisalwayssowrappedupincogitation,thatheisinmanifestdangeroffallingdowneveryprecipice,andbouncinghisheadagainsteverypost;andinthestreets,ofjustlingothers,orbeingjustledhimselfintothekennel.
Itwasnecessarytogivethereaderthisinformation,withoutwhichhewouldbeatthesamelosswithmetounderstandtheproceedingsofthesepeople,astheyconductedmeupthestairstothetopoftheisland,andfromthencetotheroyalpalace.Whilewewereascending,theyforgotseveraltimeswhattheywereabout,andleftmetomyself,tilltheirmemorieswereagainrousedbytheirflappers;fortheyappearedaltogetherunmovedbythesightofmyforeignhabitandcountenance,andbytheshoutsofthevulgar,whosethoughtsandmindsweremoredisengaged.
Atlastweenteredthepalace,andproceededintothechamberofpresence,whereIsawthekingseatedonhisthrone,attendedoneachsidebypersonsofprimequality.Beforethethrone,wasalargetablefilledwithglobesandspheres,andmathematicalinstrumentsofallkinds.
