           Hewenthisway,hisfarewellbeingscarcelysocourteousashisgreeting.ButMrs.Yeobrightknewhimthoroughlybythistime,andtooklittlenoticeofhismanner,goodorbad.

           WhenWildevewasgoneMrs.Yeobrightstoodandconsideredwhatwouldbethebestcoursetoadoptwithregardtotheguineas,whichshehadnotlikedtoentrusttoWildeve.ItwashardlycrediblethatThomasinhadtoldhimtoaskforthem,whenthenecessityforthemhadarisenfromthedifficultyofobtainingmoneyathishands.AtthesametimeThomasinreallywantedthem,andmightbeunabletocometoBlooms-Endforanotherweekatleast.Totakeorsendthemoneytoherattheinnwouldbeimpolite,sinceWildevewouldprettysurelybepresent,orwoulddiscoverthetransaction;andif,asherauntsuspected,hetreatedherlesskindlythanshedeservedtobetreated,hemightthengetthewholesumoutofhergentlehands.ButonthisparticulareveningThomasinwasatMistover,andanythingmightbeconveyedtohertherewithouttheknowledgeofherhusband.
