Thiswasthepresentmentofapoormangledbodywhichhadevidentlysufferedunbearableanguishevenbeforeitscrucifixion,fullofwoundsandbruises,marksoftheviolenceofsoldiersandpeople,andofthebitternessofthemomentwhenHehadfallenwiththecross—allthiscombinedwiththeanguishoftheactualcrucifixion.
