           Itwasnowcloseontwelveo’clock.

           TheprinceknewthatifhecalledattheEpanchins’nowhewouldonlyfindthegeneral,andthatthelattermightprobablycarryhimstraightofftoPavlofskwithhim;whereastherewasonevisithewasmostanxioustomakewithoutdelay.
