AtthatplacesometradershadleftLivingstone.ThisiswhatAlvezandhiscolleaguehadlearnedfromthem.Theyhadgoodreasontobelievethatthedoctor,afterexploringthesouthofthelake,wouldventureacrosstheLoanda,andcometoseekunknowncountriesinthewest.ThencehewastoascendtowardAngola,tovisitthoseregionsinfestedbytheslave-trade,topushasfarasKazounde;thetourseemedtobeallmarkedout,anditwasveryprobablethatLivingstonewouldfollowit.
Mrs.Weldonthencouldcountontheapproachingarrivalofthegreattraveler,because,inthebeginningofJune,itwasalreadymorethantwomonthssincehehadreachedthesouthofLakeBangoneolo.
Now,June13th,thedaybeforethatonwhichNegorowouldcometoclaimfromMrs.Weldontheletterthatwouldputonehundredthousanddollarsinhishands,sadnewswasspread,atwhichAlvezandthetradersonlyrejoiced.
