           Yes!tohavehadknowledgeofthatisolatedpointinthemiddleofthesea,asbyaprovidentialfavor,thathadrestoredconfidencetoDickSand;ifhewasgoingallthetimeatthecapriceofahurricane,whichhecouldnotsubdue,atleast,hewasnolongergoingquiteblindfold.

           Besides,the"Pilgrim,"well-builtandrigged,hadsufferedlittleduringthoserudeattacksofthetempest.Herdamagesreducedthemselvestothelossofthetop-sailandtheforetop-maststay-sailalosswhichitwouldbeeasytorepair.Notadropofwaterhadpenetratedthroughthewell-stanchedseamsofthehullandthedeck.Thepumpswereperfectlyfree.Inthisrespecttherewasnothingtofear.

           Therewas,then,thisinterminablehurricane,whosefurynothingseemedabletomoderate.If,inacertainmeasure,DickSandcouldputhisshipinaconditiontostruggleagainsttheviolentstorm,hecouldnotorderthatwindtomoderate,thosewavestobestill,thatskytobecomesereneagain
