But,threedaysafterherdeparture,theschooner,thwartedbystrongbreezesfromtheeast,wasobligedtotacktolarboardtomakeheadwayagainstthewind.So,atthedateofFebruary2d,CaptainHullstillfoundhimselfinahigherlatitudethanhewouldhavewished,andinthesituationofasailorwhowantedtodoubleCapeHornratherthanreachtheNewContinentbytheshortestcourse.
