Onemustconsiderinallworktwothings;first,theobjectforwhichitisundertaken,andsecondlythewayinwhichitisperformed.Allworkshouldhaveahighandunselfishintent—withoutthis,itperishesandisnotconsideredworkatall—notatleastbytheeternaljudgesinvisible.Ifitiswork,trulyandnoblydoneineverysenseoftheword,itcarrieswithititsownreward,andthelaurelsdescendfromheavenshapedreadyforwearing—noearthlypowercanbestowthem.Icannotgiveyouthatfame—butIhavesecuredyouaveryfairimitationofit."
