           OnethingIwasbeginningtofeel,andthatwasthatIcouldneveragainbequitethesamemanIhadbeen.WhilemyhopeandfaithinhumanlifestillsurvivedWolfLarsen’sdestructivecriticism,hehadneverthelessbeenacauseofchangeinminormatters.Hehadopenedupformetheworldofthereal,ofwhichIhadknownpracticallynothingandfromwhichIhadalwaysshrunk.Ihadlearnedtolookmorecloselyatlifeasitwaslived,torecognizethatthereweresuchthingsasfactsintheworld,toemergefromtherealmofmindandideaandtoplacecertainvaluesontheconcreteandobjectivephasesofexistence.

           Itisnoslightmatterfortwomen,particularlywhenastiffwindhassprungup,tohandleavesselliketheGhost,steering,keepinglook-outfortheboats,andsettingortakinginsail;soitdevolveduponmetolearn,andlearnquickly.
