OnceitfellabouttheshortneckofHorta,theboar,andhismadlungeforfreedomtoppledTarzanfromtheoverhanginglimbwherehehadlaininwaitandfromwhencehehadlaunchedhissinuouscoil.
Themightytuskerturnedatthesoundofhisfallingbody,and,seeingonlytheeasypreyofayoungape,heloweredhisheadandchargedmadlyatthesurprisedyouth.
Tarzan,happily,wasuninjuredbythefall,alightingcatlikeuponallfoursfaroutspreadtotakeuptheshock.Hewasonhisfeetinaninstantand,leapingwiththeagilityofthemonkeyhewas,hegainedthesafetyofalowlimbasHorta,theboar,rushedfutilelybeneath.
ThusitwasthatTarzanlearnedbyexperiencethelimitationsaswellasthepossibilitiesofhisstrangeweapon.
Helostalongropeonthisoccasion,butheknewthathaditbeenSaborwhohadthusdraggedhimfromhisperchtheoutcomemighthavebeenverydifferent,forhewouldhavelosthislife,doubtless,intothebargain.
