           OnmyarrivalatNewYorkthequestionwasatitsheight. Thetheoryofthefloatingisland,andtheunapproachablesandbank,supportedbymindslittlecompetenttoformajudgment,wasabandoned. And,indeed,unlessthisshoalhadamachineinitsstomach,howcoulditchangeitspositionwithsuchastonishingrapidity?
