November3. —Iwentoutwithmygun,andkilledtwofowlslikeducks,whichwereverygoodfood. Intheafternoonwenttoworktomakemeatable.
November4. —ThismorningIbegantoordermytimesofwork,ofgoingoutwithmygun,timeofsleep,andtimeofdiversion,viz., everymorningIwalkedoutwithmygunfortwoorthreehours,ifitdidnotrain; thenemployedmyselftoworktillabouteleveno’clock;theneatwhatIhadtoliveon;andfromtwelvetotwoIlaydowntosleep,theweatherbeingexcessivehot;andthenintheeveningtoworkagain. Theworkingpartofthisdayandofthenextwerewhollyemployedinmakingmytable; forIwasyetbutaverysorryworkman,thoughtimeandnecessitymademeacompletenaturalmechanicsoonafter,asIbelieveitwoulddoanyoneelse.
November5. —Thisdaywentabroadwithmygunandmydog,andkilledawild-cat; herskinprettysoft,butherfleshgoodfornothing. EverycreatureIkilled,Itookofftheskinsandpreservedthem. Comingbackbytheseashore,Isawmanysortsofseafowls,whichIdidnotunderstand; butwassurprised,andalmostfrighted,withtwoorthreeseals,which,whileIwasgazingat,notwellknowingwhattheywere,gotintothesea,andescapedmeforthattime.
