Twoofthemwerekeptpinioned,indeed,becausethecaptainwasnotfreetotrustthem; buttheothertwoweretakenintomyservice,uponthecaptain’srecommendation,andupontheirsolemnlyengagingtoliveanddiewithus; sowiththemandthethreehonestmenweweresevenmenwellarmed; andImadenodoubtweshouldbeabletodealwellenoughwiththetenthatwerea-coming,consideringthattheCaptainhadsaidtherewerethreeorfourhonestmenamongthemalso.
Assoonastheygottotheplacewheretheirotherboatlay,theyrantheirboatintothebeach,andcameallonshore,haulingtheboatupafterthem,whichIwasgladtosee; forIwasafraidtheywouldratherhavelefttheboatatananchorsomedistancefromtheshore,withsomehandsinhertoguardher,andsoweshouldnotbeabletoseizetheboat.
Beingonshore,thefirstthingtheydidtheyranalltotheirotherboat; anditwaseasytoseethattheywereunderagreatsurprisetofindher,stripped,asabove,ofallthatwasinher,andagreatholeinherbottom.
Aftertheyhadmusedawhileuponthis,theysetuptwoorthreegreatshouts,hallooingwithalltheirmight,totryiftheycouldmaketheircompanionshear; butallwastonopurpose.
