Onceupinthebedroom,onewouldhavethoughthecouldnotmakemattersworse;andyetthisunluckyboydid.Themoonwasshiningverypleasantlyoutonthesea,andJim,attractedtothewindowbytheromanticappearanceoftheoceanandtheheavens,thoughthewouldfurtherenjoythemwhilesmoking.Nobodywouldsmellthetobacco,hethought,ifhecunninglyopenedthewindowandkepthisheadandpipeinthefreshair.Thishedid:butbeinginanexcitedstate,poorJimhadforgottenthathisdoorwasopenallthistime,sothatthebreezeblowinginwardsandafinethoroughdraughtbeingestablished,thecloudsoftobaccowerecarrieddownstairs,andarrivedwithquiteundiminishedfragrancetoMissCrawleyandMissBriggs.
