           Afterallarrangementsweremade,andthecarpentersettowork,JohnManglesescortedtheIrishmanandhisfamilybacktothevessel,forPaddywishedtoreturnthevisitofLordGlenarvan.Ayrtonthoughtpropertogotoo,andaboutfouro’clockthepartycameoverthesideoftheDuncan.

           Theywerereceivedwithopenarms.Glenarvanwouldnotbeoutstrippedinpoliteness,andinvitedhisvisitorstostopanddine.Hishospitalitywaswillinglyaccepted.Paddywasquiteamazedatthesplendorofthesaloon,andwasloudinadmirationofthefittingupofthecabins,andthecarpetsandhangings,aswellasofthepolishedmaple-woodoftheupperdeck.Ayrton’sapprobationwasmuchlesshearty,forheconsidereditmerecostlysuperfluity.
