           LordGlenarvandidnotexpecttogleananyinformation,andonlyaskedbythewayofduty.Heevensenttheboatstomakethecircuitoftheisland,theentireextentofwhichwasnotmorethanseventeenmilesatmost.

           Intheinterimthepassengerswalkedaboutthevillage.Thepopulationdoesnotexceed150inhabitants,andconsistsofEnglishandAmericans,marriedtonegroesandCapeHottentots,whomightbearawaythepalmforugliness.ThechildrenoftheseheterogeneoushouseholdsareverydisagreeablecompoundsofSaxonstiffnessandAfricanblackness.
