Whilethesethingswerepassinginthecountryworkhouse,Mr.Faginsatintheoldden—thesamefromwhichOliverhadbeenremovedbythegirl—broodingoveradull,smokyfire.Heheldapairofbellowsuponhisknee,withwhichhehadapparentlybeenendeavouringtorouseitintomorecheerfulaction;buthehadfallenintodeepthought;andwithhisarmsfoldedonthem,andhischinrestingonhisthumbs,fixedhiseyes,abstractedly,ontherustybars.
