‘Thishereboy,sir,wottheparishwantsto‘prentis,’saidMr.Gamfield.
‘Ay,myman,’saidthegentlemaninthewhitewaistcoat,withacondescendingsmile.‘Whatofhim?’
‘Iftheparishvouldlikehimtolearnarightpleasanttrade,inagood‘spectablechimbley-sweepin’bisness,’saidMr.Gamfield,‘Iwantsa‘prentis,andIamreadytotakehim.’
‘Walkin,’saidthegentlemaninthewhitewaistcoat.Mr.Gamfieldhavinglingeredbehind,togivethedonkeyanotherblowonthehead,andanotherwrenchofthejaw,asacautionnottorunawayinhisabsence,followedthegentlemanwiththewhitewaistcoatintotheroomwhereOliverhadfirstseenhim.
