           Suddenlyshehatedthemallbecausetheyweredifferentfromher,becausetheycarriedtheirlosseswithanairthatshecouldneverattain,wouldneverwishtoattain.Shehatedthem,thesesmiling,light-footedstrangers,theseproudfoolswhotookprideinsomethingtheyhadlost,seemingtobeproudthattheyhadlostit.Thewomenborethemselveslikeladiesandsheknewtheywereladies,thoughmenialtasksweretheirdailylotandtheydidn’tknowwheretheirnextdresswascomingfrom.Ladiesall!Butshecouldnotfeelherselfalady,forallhervelvetdressandscentedhair,foralltheprideofbirththatstoodbehindherandtheprideofwealththathadoncebeenhers.
