           Theolddayshadgonebutthesepeoplewouldgotheirwaysasiftheolddaysstillexisted,charming,leisurely,determinednottorushandscrambleforpenniesastheYankeesdid,determinedtopartwithnoneoftheoldways.

           Asshestaredatthedancers,flushedfromthereel,shewonderedifthingsdrovethemasshewasdriven,deadlovers,maimedhusbands,childrenwhowerehungry,acresslippingaway,belovedroofsthatshelteredstrangers.But,ofcourse,theyweredriven!Sheknewtheircircumstancesonlyalittlelessthoroughlythansheknewherown.
