"ThenmayIcomein?"sheasked.
"I’llopenthedoor,"saidtherabbit.Heshutthewindowanddisappeared,butamomentafterwardabigdoorinthewallopenedandadmittedDorothytoasmallroom,whichseemedtobeapartofthewallandbuiltintoit.
Herestoodtherabbitshehadbeentalkingwith,andnowthatshecouldseeallofhim,shegazedatthecreatureinsurprise.Hewasagoodsizedwhiterabbitwithpinkeyes,muchlikeallotherwhiterabbits.Buttheastonishingthingabouthimwasthemannerinwhichhewasdressed.Heworeawhitesatinjacketembroideredwithgold,andhavingdiamondbuttons.Hisvestwasrose-coloredsatin,withtourmalinebuttons.Histrouserswerewhite,tocorrespondwiththejacket,andtheywerebaggyattheknees--likethoseofazouave--beingtiedwithknotsofroseribbons.Hisshoeswereofwhiteplushwithdiamondbuckles,andhisstockingswererosesilk.
Therichnessandevenmagnificenceoftherabbit’sclothingmadeDorothystareatthelittlecreaturewonderingly.TotoandBillinahadfollowedherintotheroomandwhenhesawthemtherabbitrantoatableandspranguponitnimbly.
