Kikireachedoutanarmandseizedthebag,andtheFoxcriedasloudasitcould:
"Treason!There’satraitorherewithmagicpowers!"
Everyonewasstartledatthiscry,andDorothy,seeingheroldfriend’splight,screamedandexclaimed:"Mercyme!"
Butthenextinstantthelittlegirl’sformhadchangedtothatofalambwithfleecywhitewool,andDorothywastoobewilderedtodoanythingbutlookaroundherinwonder.
TheCowardlyLion’seyesnowflashedfire;hecrouchedlowandlashedthegroundwithhistailandgazedaroundtodiscoverwhothetreacherousmagicianmightbe.ButKiki,whohadkepthisfaceinthehollowrock,againwhisperedthemagicword,andthegreatliondisappearedandinhisplacestoodalittleboydressedinMunchkincostume.ThelittleMunchkinboywasasangryasthelionhadbeen,buthewassmallandhelpless.
RuggedotheNomesawwhatwashappeningandwasafraidKikiwouldspoilallhisplans,soheleanedovertherockandshouted:"Stop,Kiki—stop!"
Kikiwouldnotstop,however.Instead,hetransformedtheNomeintoagoose,toRuggedo’shorroranddismay.ButtheHungryTigerhadwitnessedallthesetransformations,andhewaswatchingtoseewhichofthosepresentwastoblameforthem.WhenRuggedospoketoKiki,theHungryTigerknewthathewasthemagician,sohemadeasuddenspringandhurledhisgreatbodyfullupontheformoftheLi-Mon-Eagcrouchingagainsttherock.Kikididn’tseetheTigercomingbecausehisfacewasstillinthehollow,andtheheavybodyofthetigerborehimtotheearthjustashesaid"Pyrzqxgl!"forthefifthtime.
