WearenowintheBroadWalk,anditisasmuchbiggerthantheotherwalksasyourfatherisbiggerthanyou.Davidwonderedifitbeganlittle,andgrewandgrew,tillitwasquitegrownup,andwhethertheotherwalksareitsbabies,andhedrewapicture,whichdivertedhimverymuch,oftheBroadWalkgivingatinywalkanairinginaperambulator.IntheBroadWalkyoumeetallthepeoplewhoareworthknowing,andthereisusuallyagrown-upwiththemtopreventtheirgoingonthedampgrass,andtomakethemstanddisgracedatthecornerofaseatiftheyhavebeenmad-dogorMary-Annish.TobeMary-Annishistobehavelikeagirl,whimperingbecausenursewon’tcarryyou,orsimperingwithyourthumbinyourmouth,anditisahatefulquality,buttobemad-dogistokickoutateverything,andthereissomesatisfactioninthat.
