Theevilsideofmynature,towhichIhadnowtransferredthestampingefficacy,waslessrobustandlessdevelopedthanthegoodwhichIhadjustdeposed. Andhence,asIthink,itcameaboutthatEdwardHydewassomuchsmaller,slighter,andyoungerthanHenryJekyll. Evenasgoodshoneuponthecountenanceoftheone,evilwaswrittenbroadlyandplainlyonthefaceoftheother. Evilbesides(whichImuststillbelievetobethelethalsideofman)hadleftonthatbodyanimprintofdeformityanddecay. AndyetwhenIlookeduponthatuglyidolintheglass,Iwasconsciousofnorepugnance,ratherofaleapofwelcome.
