Severalhourspassed,andIremainednearmywindowgazingonthesea;itwasalmostmotionless,forthewindswerehushed,andallnaturereposedundertheeyeofthequietmoon.Afewfishingvesselsalonespeckedthewater,andnowandthenthegentlebreezewaftedthesoundofvoicesasthefishermencalledtooneanother.Ifeltthesilence,althoughIwashardlyconsciousofitsextremeprofundity,untilmyearwassuddenlyarrestedbythepaddlingofoarsneartheshore,andapersonlandedclosetomyhouse.
