           Wornoutwiththistortureofthought,Irosetomyknees. Nightwascome,andherplanetswererisen:asafe,stillnight:toosereneforthecompanionshipoffear. WeknowthatGodiseverywhere;butcertainlywefeelHispresencemostwhenHisworksareonthegrandestscalespreadbeforeus;anditisintheuncloudednight-sky,whereHisworldswheeltheirsilentcourse,thatwereadclearestHisinfinitude,Hisomnipotence,Hisomnipresence. IhadrisentomykneestoprayforMr.Rochester. Lookingup,I,withtear-dimmedeyes,sawthemightyMilky-way. RememberingwhatitwaswhatcountlesssystemstheresweptspacelikeasofttraceoflightIfeltthemightandstrengthofGod. SurewasIofHisefficiencytosavewhatHehadmade:convincedIgrewthatneitherearthshouldperish,noroneofthesoulsittreasured.Iturnedmyprayertothanksgiving:theSourceofLifewasalsotheSaviourofspirits. Mr.Rochesterwassafe;hewasGod’s,andbyGodwouldhebeguarded.
