Ourplacewastakenatthecommunionrails. Hearingacautiousstepbehindme,Iglancedovermyshoulder:oneofthestrangers—agentleman,evidently—wasadvancingupthechancel. Theservicebegan. Theexplanationoftheintentofmatrimonywasgonethrough;andthentheclergymancameastepfurtherforward,and,bendingslightlytowardsMr.Rochester,wenton.
