           Iwasreflectingthus,whentheCaptain,coolandcalm,alwaysmasterofhimself,approachedme.

           "Anaccident?"Iasked.

           "No;anincident."

           "Butanincidentthatwillobligeyouperhapstobecomeaninhabitantofthislandfromwhichyouflee?"

           CaptainNemolookedatmecuriously,andmadeanegativegesture,asmuchastosaythatnothingwouldforcehimtosetfootonterrafirmaagain.Thenhesaid:

           "Besides,M.Aronnax,theNautilusisnotlost;itwillcarryyouyetintothemidstofthemarvelsoftheocean.Ourvoyageisonlybegun,andIdonotwishtobedeprivedsosoonofthehonourofyourcompany."
