           PooroldMrs.Bates,civilandhumbleasusual,lookedasifshedidnotquiteunderstandwhatwasgoingon.

           "IamafraidJaneisnotverywell,"saidshe,"butIdonotknow;theytellmesheiswell.Idaresaymydaughterwillbeherepresently,MissWoodhouse.Ihopeyoufindachair.IwishHettyhadnotgone.
