           Shewasaveryprettygirl,andherbeautyhappenedtobeofasortwhichEmmaparticularlyadmired.Shewasshort,plump,andfair,withafinebloom,blueeyes,lighthair,regularfeatures,andalookofgreatsweetness,and,beforetheendoftheevening,Emmawasasmuchpleasedwithhermannersasherperson,andquitedeterminedtocontinuetheacquaintance.

           ShewasnotstruckbyanythingremarkablycleverinMissSmith’sconversation,butshefoundheraltogetherveryengagingnotinconvenientlyshy,notunwillingtotalkandyetsofarfrompushing,shewingsoproperandbecomingadeference,seemingsopleasantlygratefulforbeingadmittedtoHartfield,andsoartlesslyimpressedbytheappearanceofeverythinginsosuperiorastyletowhatshehadbeenusedto,thatshemusthavegoodsense,anddeserveencouragement.Encouragementshouldbegiven.Thosesoftblueeyes,andallthosenaturalgraces,shouldnotbewastedontheinferiorsocietyofHighburyanditsconnexions.Theacquaintanceshehadalreadyformedwereunworthyofher.Thefriendsfromwhomshehadjustparted,thoughverygoodsortofpeople,mustbedoingherharm.
