           ThedistressingexplanationshehadtomaketoHarriet,andallthatpoorHarrietwouldbesuffering,withtheawkwardnessoffuturemeetings,thedifficultiesofcontinuingordiscontinuingtheacquaintance,ofsubduingfeelings,concealingresentment,andavoidingeclat,wereenoughtooccupyherinmostunmirthfulreflectionssometimelonger,andshewenttobedatlastwithnothingsettledbuttheconvictionofherhavingblunderedmostdreadfully.

           ToyouthandnaturalcheerfulnesslikeEmma’s,thoughundertemporarygloomatnight,thereturnofdaywillhardlyfailtobringreturnofspirits.Theyouthandcheerfulnessofmorningareinhappyanalogy,andofpowerfuloperation;andifthedistressbenotpoignantenoughtokeeptheeyesunclosed,theywillbesuretoopentosensationsofsoftenedpainandbrighterhope.
