"Wecanbeglad‘tain’tour’n,"sheobserveddemurely. ButPollyannadidnothear. Shehadbeguntotelloftheaccident; andinamomentNancy,open-mouthed,waslistening.
Attheappointedplacethenextafternoon,PollyannametJimmyBeanaccordingtoagreement. Aswastobeexpected,ofcourse,JimmyshowedkeendisappointmentthattheLadies’AidpreferredalittleIndiaboytohimself.
"Well,maybe‘tisnatural,"hesighed. "Ofcoursethingsyoudon’tknowaboutarealwaysnicer’nthingsyoudo,sameasthepertateron‘tothersideoftheplateisalwaysthebiggest. ButIwishIlookedthatwaytersomebody‘wayoff. Wouldn’titbejestgreat,now,ifonlysomebodyoverinIndiawantedME?"
Pollyannaclappedherhands.
"Why,ofcourse! That’stheverything,Jimmy! I’llwritetomyLadies’Aidersaboutyou. Theyaren’toverinIndia; they’reonlyoutWest—butthat’sawfulfaraway,justthesame. Ireckonyou’dthinksoifyou’dcomeallthewayhereasIdid!"
Jimmy’sfacebrightened.
