"Howcanitbeelsebuttrue,Prissy?Wouldhesayalie?Forlookyou,Prissy,an’itwerenottrue,itwouldbealie.Itsurelywouldbe.Nowthinkon’t.Forallthingsthatbenottrue,belies—thoucanstmakenoughtelseoutofit."
Itwasagoodtightargument,withoutaleakinitanywhere;anditleftPrissy’shalf-doubtsnotalegtostandon.Sheconsideredamoment,thenputtheKinguponhishonourwiththesimpleremark—
"IfthouarttrulytheKing,thenIbelievethee."
