Andwewouldallhavetogodownonourkneesandgrovelforit,whilehewouldstandonthechair,andgrunt,andwanttoknowifhewastobekepttherealltheevening.
Thenailwouldbefoundatlast,butbythattimehewouldhavelostthehammer.
"Where’sthehammer? WhatdidIdowiththehammer? Greatheavens! Sevenofyou,gapingroundthere,andyoudon’tknowwhatIdidwiththehammer!"
Wewouldfindthehammerforhim,andthenhewouldhavelostsightofthemarkhehadmadeonthewall,wherethenailwastogoin,andeachofushadtogetuponthechair,besidehim,andseeifwecouldfindit;andwewouldeachdiscoveritinadifferentplace,andhewouldcallusallfools,oneafteranother,andtellustogetdown. Andhewouldtaketherule,andre-measure,andfindthathewantedhalfthirty-oneandthree-eighthsinchesfromthecorner,andwouldtrytodoitinhishead,andgomad.
