Herevelledinthevengeancehewreakeduponhiskind. Theywereordinary,unsuspectingdogs. Theywerenotpreparedforhisswiftnessanddirectness,forhisattackwithoutwarning. Theydidnotknowhimforwhathewas,alightning-flashofslaughter. Theybristleduptohim,stiff-leggedandchallenging,whilehe,wastingnotimeonelaboratepreliminaries,snappingintoactionlikeasteelspring,wasattheirthroatsanddestroyingthembeforetheyknewwhatwashappeningandwhiletheywereyetinthethroesofsurprise.
