Theinvalid,itappeared,wasabitbetter,andthisannoyingchildwantedtoinformWilliamthatshehadtookallthetapiocar.ShewastoindicatethisbylickinganimaginaryplateinthemiddleofPallMall.Igavethelittlevulgarianashilling,andreturnedtotheclubdisgusted.
“Bytheway,William,”Isaid,“Mr.B——istoinformthecommitteethathewasmistakeninthinkingyouusedimproperlanguagetohim,soyouwilldoubtlessberestoredtothedining-roomto-morrow.”
