ButnowsevenhabitssuchasBlackFriarswearwerebrought,andtheKingandthoseabouthimhavingcladthemselvestherein,andHisMajestyhavinghungapursewithahundredgoldenpoundsinitbeneathhisrobes,theyallwentforthandmountedthemulesthathadbeenbroughttothedoorforthem.ThentheKingbadetheSheriffbesilentastotheirdoings,andsotheysetforthupontheirway.Onwardtheytraveled,laughingandjesting,untiltheypassedthroughtheopencountry;betweenbareharvestfieldswhencetheharvesthadbeengatheredhome;throughscatteredgladesthatbegantothickenastheywentfartheralong,tilltheycamewithintheheavyshadeoftheforestitself.Theytraveledintheforestforseveralmileswithoutmeetinganyonesuchastheysought,untiltheyhadcometothatpartoftheroadthatlaynearesttoNewsteadAbbey.
