           ButalthoughRobinlaughedatthedrollsight,heknewthewayfarertobeacertainrichcornengrosserofWorksop,whomorethanoncehadboughtallthegraininthecountrysideandheldittillitreachedevenfamineprices,thusmakingmuchmoneyfromtheneedsofpoorpeople,andforthishewashatedfarandnearbyeveryonethatknewaughtofhim.

           So,afterawhile,theCornEngrossercameridinguptowhereRobinsat;whereuponmerryRobinsteppedstraightwayforth,inallhisragsandtatters,hisbagsandpouchesdanglingabouthim,andlaidhishanduponthehorse’sbridlerein,callingupontheothertostop.

           "Whoartthou,fellow,thatdothdaretostopmethusupontheKing’shighway?"saidtheleanman,inadry,sourvoice.

           "Pityapoorbeggar,"quothRobin."Givemebutafarthingtobuymeapieceofbread."

           "Now,outuponthee!"snarledtheother."Suchsturdyroguesasthouartarebettersafeintheprisonsordancinguponnothing,withahempencollarabouttheneck,thanstrollingthehighwayssofreely."

           "Tut,"quothRobin,"howthoutalkest!ThouandIarebrothers,man.
