Quicklylightingthepyreinadozenplaces,hehurriedtotheextremepointofthepromontory,wherehestrippedoffhisshirt,and,tyingittoafallenbranch,stoodwavingitbackandforthabovehim.
Butstillthevesselscontinuedtostandout;andhehadgivenupallhope,whenthegreatcolumnofsmoke,risingabovetheforestinonedenseverticalshaft,attractedtheattentionofalookoutaboardthecruiser,andinstantlyadozenglasseswereleveledonthebeach.
