Itcontinuedrainingallthatnightandagreatpartofthenextday,sothatIcouldnotstirabroad; butmymindbeingmorecomposed,IbegantothinkofwhatIhadbestdo, concludingthatiftheislandwassubjecttotheseearthquakes,therewouldbenolivingformeinacave, butImustconsiderofbuildingmesomelittlehutinanopenplace,whichImightsurroundwithawall,asIhaddonehere,andsomakemyselfsecurefromwildbeastsormen; butconcluded,ifIstayedwhereIwas,Ishouldcertainly,onetimeoranotherbeburiedalive.
WiththesethoughtsIresolvedtoremovemytentfromtheplacewhereitstood,whichwasjustunderthehangingprecipiceofthehill,andwhich,ifitshouldbeshakenagain,wouldcertainlyfalluponmytent; andIspentthetwonextdays,beingthe19thand20thofApril,incontrivingwhereandhowtoremovemyhabitation.
ThefearofbeingswallowedupalivemademethatIneversleptinquiet; andyettheapprehensionoflyingabroadwithoutanyfencewasalmostequaltoit. Butstill,whenIlookedaboutandsawhoweverythingwasputinorder,howpleasantlyconcealedIwas,andhowsafefromdanger,itmademeverylothtoremove.
Inthemeantimeitoccurredtomethatitwouldrequireavastdealoftimeformetodothis,andthatImustbecontentedtoruntheventurewhereIwas,tillIhadformedacampformyself,andhadsecureditsoastoremovetoit.
