Theylistenedalwaysveryattentivelytomydiscoursesontheseheads,butespeciallytothatpartwhichrelatedtothebuyingnegroes; whichwasatrade,atthattime,notonlynotfarenteredinto,but,asfarasitwas,hadbeencarriedonbytheassiento,orpermission,oftheKingsofSpainandPortugal, andengrossedinthepublic,sothatfewnegroeswerebrought,andthoseexcessivedear.
Ithappened,beingincompanywithsomemerchantsandplantersofmyacquaintance,andtalkingofthosethingsveryearnestly, threeofthemcametonethenextmorning,andtoldmetheyhadbeenmusingverymuchuponwhatIhaddiscoursedwiththemof,thelastnight,andtheycametomakeasecretproposaltome. Andafterenjoiningmesecrecy,theytoldmethattheyhadamindtofitoutashiptogotoGuinea;thattheyhadallplantationsaswellasI,andwerestraitenedfornothingsomuchasservants;
