Whenwetoldthemhowweplacedourselves,andthehorsesinthemiddle,theyblamedusexceedingly,andtoldusitwasafiftytoonebutwehadbeenalldestroyed; foritwasthesightofthehorseswhichmadethewolvessofurious,seeingtheirprey; andthat,atothertimes,theyarereallyafraidofagun; butthebeingexcessivehungry,andragingonthataccount,theeagernesstocomeatthehorseshadmadethemsenselessofdangerandthatifwehadnot,bythecontinuedfire,andatlastbythestratagemofthetrainofpowder,masteredthem,ithadbeengreatoddsbutthatwehadbeentorntopieces; whereashadwebeencontenttohavesatstillonhorseback,andfiredashorsemen,theywouldnothavetakenthehorsesforsomuchtheirown,whenmenwereontheirbacks,asotherwise;
