Theyhadnotbeenlonginthatposturebutthattheboatswain,whowastheprincipalringleaderofthemutiny,andhadnowshownhimselfthemostdejectedanddispiritedofalltherest,camewalkingtowardsthem,withtwomoreoftheircrew. Thecaptainwassoeager,ashavingthisprincipalroguesomuchinhispowerthathecouldhardlyhavepatiencetolethimcomesonearastobesureofhim,fortheyonlyheardhistonguebefore, butwhentheycamenearer,thecaptainandFriday,startingupontheirfeet,letflyatthem.
Theboatswainwaskilleduponthespot; thenextmanwasshotintothebody,andfelljustbyhim,thoughhedidnotdietillanhourortwoafter; andthethirdranforit.

Wecameuponthem,indeed,inthedark,sothattheycouldnotseeournumber; andImadethemanwehadleftintheboat,whowasnowoneofus,calltothembyname,totryifIcouldbringthemtoaparley,andsomightperhapsreducethemtoterms,whichfelloutjustaswedesired; forindeeditwaseasytothink,astheirconditionthenwas,theywouldbeverywillingtocapitulate.
