Andthiswasanagreeablediscoverytomeatthattime; soIcarriedallawaythither,neverkeepingabovetwoorthreepoundsofpowderwithmeinmycastle,forfearofasurpriseofanykind. IalsocarriedthitheralltheleadIhadleftforbullets.
Ifanciedmyselfnowlikeoneoftheancientgiants,whichweresaidtoliveincavesandholesintherocks,wherenonecouldcomeatthem; forIpersuadedmyself,whileIwashere,iffivehundredsavagesweretohuntme,theycouldneverfindmeout; or,iftheydid,theywouldnotventuretoattackmehere.
Theoldgoat,whomIfoundexpiring,diedinthemouthofthecavethenextdayafterImadethisdiscovery; andIfounditmucheasiertodigagreatholethere,andthrowhiminandcoverhimwithearth,thantodraghimout;soIinterredhimthere,topreventtheoffencetomynose.
