ButstillpluckingupmyspiritsaswellasIcould,andencouragingmyselfalittlewithconsideringthatthepowerandpresenceofGodwaseverywhere,andwasabletoprotectme,uponthisIsteppedforwardagain,andbythelightofthefirebrand,holdingitupalittleovermyhead,Isawlyingonthegroundamostmonstrous,frightful,oldhe-goat, justmakinghiswill,aswesay,andgaspingforlife;anddying,indeed,ofmereoldage.
IstirredhimalittletoseeifIcouldgethimout,andheessayedtogetup,butwasnotabletoraisehimself; andIthoughtwithmyselfhemightevenliethere; forifhehadfrightedmeso,hewouldcertainlyfrightanyofthesavages,ifanyofthemshouldbesohardyastocomeintherewhilehehadanylifeinhim.
Iwasnowrecoveredfrommysurprise,andbegantolookroundme,whenIfoundthecavewasbutverysmall; thatistosay,itmightbeabouttwelvefeetover,butinnomannerofshape,eitherroundorsquare,nohandshavingeverybeenemployedinmakingitbutthoseofmereNature.
