Oneofthese,whichwasthedriestandlargest,andhadadooroutbeyondmywallorfortification,thatistosay,beyondwheremywalljoinedtotherock,wasallfilledupwiththelargeearthenpots,ofwhichIhavegivenanaccount,andwithfourteenorfifteengreatbaskets,whichwouldholdfiveorsixbushelseach, whereIlaidupmystoresofprovision,especiallymycorn,someintheear,cutoffshortfromthestraw,andtheotherrubbedoutwithmyhand.
Asformywall,made,asbefore,withlongstakesorpiles,thosepilesgrewallliketrees,andwerebythistimegrownsobig,andspreadsoverymuch,thattherewasnottheleastappearance,toanyone’sview,ofanyhabitationbehindthem.
Nearthisdwellingofmine,butalittlefartherwithintheland,anduponlowerground,laymytwopiecesofcornground,whichIkeptdulycultivatedandsowed,andwhichdulyyieldedmetheirharvestinitsseason; andwheneverIhadoccasionformorecorn,Ihadmorelandadjoiningasfitasthat.
Besidesthis,Ihadmycountryseat,andIhadnowatolerableplantationtherealso;for,first,Ihadmylittlebower,asIcalledit,whichIkeptinrepair; thatistosay,Ikeptthehedgewhichcircleditinconstantlyfitteduptoitsusualheight,theladderstandingalwaysintheinside.Ikeptthetrees,whichatfirstwerenomorethanmystakes,butwerenowgrownveryfirmandtall,Ikeptthemalwayssocut,thattheymightspreadandgrowthickandwild,andmakethemoreagreeableshade,whichtheydideffectuallytomymind. Inthemiddleofthis,Ihadmytentalwaysstanding,beingapieceofasailspreadoverpoles,setupforthatpurpose,andwhichneverwantedanyrepairorrenewing;
