So,withthesethoughts,Icontentedmyselftobewithoutanyboat,thoughithadbeentheproductofsomanymonths’labortomakeit,andofsomanymoretogetitintothesea.
InthisgovernmentofmytemperIremainednearayear,livedaverysedate,retiredlife,asyoumaywellsuppose; andmythoughtsbeingverymuchcomposedastomycondition,andfullycomfortedinresigningmyselftothedispositionsofProvidence,IthoughtIlivedreallyveryhappilyinallthings,exceptthatofsociety.
Iimprovedmyselfinthistimeinallthemechanicexerciseswhichmynecessitiesputmeuponapplyingmyselfto,andIbelievecould,uponoccasion,makeaverygoodcarpenter,especiallyconsideringhowfewtoolsIhad. Besidesthis,Iarrivedatanunexpectedperfectioninmyearthenware,andcontrivedwellenoughtomakethemwithawheel,whichIfoundinfinitelyeasierandbetter,becauseImadethingsroundandshapablewhichbeforewerefilthythingsindeedtolookon.
